Don Oren on Dart: We don’t need forced dispatch!
Posted: September 24, 2021
Dart doesn’t do forced dispatch for our CDL-A owner operators and lease purchase truck drivers. Why? Because we don’t need to.
“Somebody may say, ‘how does that work? How can you give [drivers] choice and still give good service?’ Well, this is what we’re good at,” Owner Don Oren said. “We foster the idea that the customer is not just the Dart customer. It's also the customer of the contractor … so it benefits everyone to give good service.”
Through our online load boarding system, Dart shows owner operators open loads from a variety of clients in a variety of locations and the driver can choose the routes that work for them – or decide not to take any at all!
“We can still get good service and still give drivers choice. And not only that, we can find routes and service requirements that fit the driver,” Oren said. “We don't need forced dispatch. It's worked in the past and it continues to work to this day.”
Dart has partnered with owner operators over its entire history and has worked with lawmakers to protect independent contractor status for owner operators and lease purchase truck drivers in Minnesota and beyond.
“It's been part of our business as long as I can remember -- partly because it was necessary, but now we really like our model,” Oren said. “We are good at it and we know the contractors that work with us understand that we know how to work with them.”
At Dart, owner operators and lease purchase truck drivers get unbeatable freight volume with no forced dispatch and steady support, so they can focus on building their business. And we put drivers first. In fact, when Don Oren is making any decision at Dart, he said he always thinks first “how does it affect the driver?”
“Almost everything we do as far as how we sell, how we set up our network and how we operate business – that’s what I ask myself,” he said. “That helps me find the answer.”
